I. J. Barkan, Inc. was formed in 1984 as a full service real estate company based in Boston, Massachusetts. Since that time, it has grown into an established and well known firm serving a nationwide roster of clients with a wide spectrum of real estate services, including consultation, appraisal, property management, leasing, investment sales, development, and asset management.

Today, when real estate holdings are affected by ever shifting markets and increasingly complex global economic forces, asset decisions must be guided by sure hands. I.J. Barkan, Inc. provides that steady direction because WE HAVE BEEN THERE!

Barkan, President, has earned an excellent reputation in New England and beyond for his thorough, hands-on approach to the challenges of real estate. Mr. Barkan holds a coveted CRE designation from the American Society of Real Estate Counselors, a measure of the respect he has attained among his colleagues. In 1991, he was appointed by Massachusetts’ Governor William F Weld to the Investment Advisory Council of the Commonwealth’s Treasury Department.

Consulting and Appraisal

I.J. Barkan has produced consultation and valuation reports for properties in every category of land use throughout the United States and eastern Canada, including high-rise office buildings, retail properties, raw acreage, and residential complexes. Outside our home base in New England, I.J. Barkan has appraised office towers in New York City; shopping centers in North Dakota; warehouses in California; hotels in Atlanta; factories in Ontario, Canada; and, a prison building in Colorado.

Our appraisers have expertise in every property type and are schooled extensively in all the modern techniques of valuation, data collection, market analysis, computer analysis, and report writing. Individuals in the firm hold a variety of the recognized designations and required state certifications. I.J. Barkan serves the largest private financial institutions and government agencies, and it meets the required FIRREA qualifications. From condominiums in Boston to super regional malls in North Dakota – WE HAVE BEEN THERE!

Property Management

Shopping centers, residential, commercial, and office properties throughout New England have been managed by the principals of I.J. Barkan. From a 200,000 square foot shopping center in Haverhill, Massachusetts to a 75 unit single family development in Hooksett, New Hampshire, the trials and tribulations of tenant relationships, contractor coordination, bill paying, and rent collecting are second nature to I.J. Barkan. For millions of square feet of property – WE HAVE BEEN THERE!

Leasing and Investment Sales

Leasing and marketing skills are the keys to success in property ownership. The tenant is the customer and he must be found, served, and nurtured. This philosophy is what has made I.J. Barkan successful with companies such as WALMART, DEMOULAS SUPERMARKETS, OSCO DRUG, FASHION BUG, SHAW’S SUPERMARKET and hundreds of tenants large and small that we have signed.

Selling is knowing the value and the buyers. In markets as tough as they get, we have found buyers to make deals. Selling 28 acres of land to WAL-MART in Westborough, Massachusetts and selling Harbour Mall, a 300,000 square foot enclosed mall in Fall River, Massachusetts for a financial institution are prime examples. From the toughest leasing needs to selling in the toughest markets – WE HAVE BEEN THERE!

Development

Construction supervision, the permit process and first-class projects are a hallmark of I.J. Barkan’s track record. Through experience and a network of relationships with architects, engineers, and contractors, the Company generates the most construction for the least dollars without sacrificing quality or timetable.
