Before forming IJ Barkan, Inc. Irwin Barkan was an investment partner of the Beal Cos. in Boston, Ma. (now known as Related-Beal) and was the partner charged with managing and redeveloping a 250,000 sf wet lab building, which was the former World Research Headquarters of the Kennecott Copper Company in Lexington, Ma. on Routes 2 and 128. Mr. Barkan, one of four investment partners was responsible for rehabilitation and leasing of the project. He also led the development plans for a 200,000 sq. ft. 2nd building which was the headquarters of a Chase Manhattan Bank subsidiary.
